On this premium tour to Southern Greece, we will visit the ancient palaces of renowned Kings, whose history Homer immortalized in the Iliad, and walk on the birthplace of the Olympic Games. On the coastlines of the Peloponnese, mighty castles still stand withstanding not only the countless attacks from Pirates of the Aegean but, more importantly, the weathering effect of time.

Our central location will be Peloponnese, home to the brave warriors of Sparta and the majestic castle towns of Monemvasia and Mani.

Corinth Canal

Crossing the man-made Corinth canal, you will gain a bird’s eye view of this engineering marvel which has literally transformed the former Peloponnese peninsula into yet another amazing Greek ‘island’. The history of this region is one of the legendary myths of the past. Here, Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans, and pirates left their marks in stone and history throughout its now charming towns and villages.

Nafplio and Archaeological Sites

One of these small cities is the quiet and quaint town of Nafplio which was once the capital of all Greece bearing witness to the historic importance of the Peloponnese. In this peaceful valley of the Peloponnese lies the sanctuary of Asclepius, the god protector of human health and happiness. We will also visit the archaeological site of Mycenae which is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The unique architecture and design of this ancient city had a profound effect on ancient Greek architecture. This is also the place of origin of the Homeric epics: the Iliad, and the Odyssey. From there we will head southwest to the renowned ancient city of Olympia. Many masterpieces of the ancient Greek world are concentrated at this site. One of the most famous of which is without a doubt the Olympic Games!

Castles & Ruins

We will traverse the region which is home to perhaps the most well-known olive oil in the world, and we will experience the harsh landscape of Mani, the only place in Greece that remained untamed throughout its long history of conquerors and invaders. The houses here were traditionally built like castles, clustered together in complexes for safety. Today, stone arches and Byzantine ruins are found next to inhabited homes with rose gardens and fruit trees. An incredible mosaic of past and present coming together and ready to be explored.

Behind medieval walls rests a well-guarded Byzantine castle city, Monemvasia which is complete with churches, majestic mansions and picturesque streets, making you feel that you have literally travelled back in time.

Day 1 - Arrive in Greece

No matter what time your flight arrives we will be there to give you a warm welcome to Greece. Athens, one of the oldest cities in the world has many ancient and modern wonders to explore. After you acclimate to the beautiful Mediterranean weather, you will embark on a tour of Athens with a member of our team. Walking through the cobblestones of Plaka and Monastiraki you will get your first look at the Acropolis!

Day 2 - Peloponnese

We will head towards Peoloponnese. The history of this region is one of the legendary myths of the past. Here, Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans, and pirates left their marks in stone and history throughout its now charming towns and villages.

On our way, we will cross the man-made Corinth canal where you will gain a bird’s eye view of this engineering marvel which has literally transformed the former Peloponnese peninsula into yet another amazing Greek ‘island’

We will then visit the Acrokorinth castle before our lunch nearby the sea. Our destination, Nafplion is a beautiful picturesque city that you will fall in love with. We will visit Palamidi Fortress and enjoy panoramic views before our dinner.

Day 3 - Nafplio & Mycenae

Today we will explore a side of modern Greek history. Nafplio is home to three castles, where many battles took place during the Greek war of independence. You will get to see where the famous governor Kapodistrias lived, and a unique view of life in early modern Greece (~1870). We will experience the beauty of Nafplio’s iconic marbled streets and flower-decked balconies while strolling around the old city.

Break for lunch. From there we will visit the Mycenaen archaeological site where King Agamemnon ruled. You might know his famous wife, Helen, who fell in love with Paris and they were the reason for the Troyan War.
The Mycenaean civilization was an ancient Greek civilization that thrived during the Late Bronze Age, from approximately 1600 to 1100 BCE. We will explore the Lion Gate, the Treasury of Atreus, and the archaeological museum.

Day 4 - Historical Village

We will head towards Dimitsana where you will all be able to visit the cave of Kapsia, which is of immense natural beauty. Lunch in the area in a traditional tavern that only locals know and we recommend it for its authentic dishes.

We will also explore the Open-Air Water Power Museum, showcasing the area’s traditional water-powered industries. Dimitsana will be our base for that night and we will enjoy strolls in this beautiful historical village.

Day 5 - Ancient Olympia

Today we will drive towards ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. This itinerary provides a comprehensive experience, allowing you to appreciate both the ancient history of Olympia and the modern charm of the surrounding area.

We will visit the ancient sanctuary of Olympia, where the Olympic Games were held in classical times. Highlights include the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the Palaestra, and the Gymnasium. We will also walk to the ancient stadium where the Olympic Games took place. Our tour includes a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Olympia where we will admire the famous statue of Hermes of Praxiteles and the Nike of Paionios.

Day 6 - Kalamata & Shopping

Today we will visit the Historic Old Town of Kalamata. We will wander through the narrow streets, lined with traditional houses and charming shops. Later, we will enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the local tavernas, where you can try Kalamata olives and other regional specialties. In the evening we will take a leisurely stroll along the seafront promenade. where we will enjoy the views of the Messenian Gulf.

Day 7 - Ancient Messini

Today we will embark on a captivating journey from Kalamata to Ancient Messini, where history comes to life amid the scenic landscapes of the Peloponnese. As we will traverse the city walls, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, offering a glimpse into the strategic importance of Ancient Messini. We will visit the imposing Asklepieion, a sanctuary dedicated to the healing god Asclepius, and we will wander through the awe-inspiring theater, where the echoes of performances from centuries past still linger.

Day 8 - Mystras Monemvasia

Our next stop, Mystras which offers a fascinating journey into the past, exploring the well-preserved medieval town of Mystras, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This tour includes the lower city with its churches, palaces, and homes, as well as the upper city with the fortress. We will also visit the Pantanassa Monastery, known for its stunning frescoes and beautiful architecture. Break for lunch before we head towards Monemvasia, our last stop. Monemvasia, known for its narrow cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and stunning views.

Day 9 - Aegean Views

Today we will wake up with the panoramic views of Aegean. We will visit the upper town and explore the fortress of Monemvasia. We will enjoy a leisurely lunch within the fortress, soaking in the historical atmosphere.
Free evening to explore the fortress walls, towers, and medieval structures or to spend time relaxing on one of the nearby beaches.
