Milos
With vibrantly coloured fishing villages and volcanic beachscapes, Milos is the quirky star of the Cyclades.
The island of Milos is located in the southwestern part of the Aegean sea and it’s easily one of the most underrated islands in Greece. It has a quirky individuality that sets it apart from all the other islands in the Cyclades.
The brightly coloured fishing village of Klima is just one of the things that sets Milos apart from all the other islands in the Cyclades.
Milos offers the whitewashed architecture that everybody knows and loves, like the white and blue details of Adamas or the capital of Plaka, but it also offers so much more. Like the vivid colours of the seaside fishing villages or the stark white volcanic rock of Sarakiniko.
Wherever you stay, there is nothing better than savouring a seaside dinner, watching the sun go down, and enjoying the twinkling lights of the village dance on the surface of the Aegean.
The fishing villages
In Mandrakia, little boat houses hug the curve of the bay. Built snugly into the rockface their colourfully painted doors are an eye-catching feature that contrasts with the crystal-clear water lapping the pebbled port. While over in Klima, the two-storied fishing houses are an eccentric addition to a traditional village. From rich purples, deep red and bright yellow trimming, Milos is home to the most beautiful fishing villages in Greece.
The beaches of Milos
Milos has over 70 stunning beaches to choose from, but one in particular has captured the hearts of many. Sarakiniko is one of the most famous beaches in the world. Here you’d be forgiven if you thought you had been transported to a different planet! Like Santorini, Milos is a volcanic island. Sarakiniko is a living remnant of this, with its stark white rocks and cliff faces, offering an experience like no other. The surreal surroundings, moon-like landscape, rockpools and translucent aquamarine waters cannot be missed.
The ancient treasures
Milos is an island that inspires creativity and exudes intense beauty, so it comes as no surprise that it was once home to the Venus de Milo. The stunning statue of Aphrodite that now resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris. This beautiful piece of ancient Greek art was found not far from the village of Klima on Milos.
